What are we about?
The most expansive way to summarize what we are about in the fewest words is to say that we affirm what Christians have affirmed for two millenia, on every continent, in almost every tongue: That Jesus is Lord of all and Saviour of the World. This truth is revealed in The Bible, which we believe is the Word of God. We affirm our belief of what God has shown us in His Word by weekly stating and confessing our faith in the ancient words of the Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son , who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
*catholic comes from the Greek words, "kata holos", which means, "according to the whole", or universal. When this creed was finalized in 326AD, the Roman Catholic Church didn't exist yet as it exists today, so catholic here means the universal, global, traditional Church.
Big Picture: We are followers of Jesus
We affirm what God has spoken through His Word, upholding the Bible as God's eternal and final Word. We also treasure the story and traditions that have been passed down to us by generations of Christians who have faithfully transmitted our faith to us. To this end, we are honoured to be a part of the Anglican Church, a church traditionally committed to following Jesus and loving the World.
