The Joy of Growth
"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27:14)
The church's theme for 2025 is "The Joy of Growth", following last year's theme, "Roots that Refresh." Last year, we explored the source of life—God and His Word. Naturally, the next stage is to witness the sprouting and growth of life. Whether we have personally sown seeds or planted, or simply purchased a ready-made indoor potted plant, seeing a plant grow taller brings a sense of joy, doesn't it?

This year's church ministries are naturally aligned with this theme. We will launch the second phase of the "Disciple 2for2" program, expanding from 4 participants last year to 8 this year. Additionally, using "To Be a Christian" as our reference book, we plan to regularly offer seekers’ classes, baptismal classes, and faith-nurturing small groups. The church is also introducing an initiative called the "Love Thy Neighbor Movement", encouraging brothers and sisters to care for and serve families and friends in need around them. Through these efforts, we hope to shape SMSL into a church that is passionate and deeply devoted to loving God and others.

We recently renewed a two-year contract with Anson Tang, who will continue as a part-time evangelist focusing on planning and expanding our English and Chinese youth ministries. Moreover, the Relocation Task Force has held its first meeting, and we will present this year's fundraising plan for the relocation project in February at the AGM.
On a personal and family level, I thank everyone for your care and prayers. My Permanent Residency (PR) application remains at a standstill. After consulting our lawyer, my family has decided to file a motion for a mandamus with the court. However, regardless of whether the application is accepted or successful, the process will take another 6 months or more, and the legal fees are significant. Given the profound impact PR status has on my family and our ministry at SMSL, we feel compelled to take this course of action.

During this long wait, I’ve been deeply touched and encouraged by the heartfelt prayers from brothers and sisters for my PR application. This has brought warmth and comfort in an otherwise challenging season.

"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" (Psalm 27:14)

This verse reminds us to remain patient and faithful in the face of difficulties and uncertainties, trusting in God's perfect timing and plan. He will strengthen those who faithfully wait on Him.
In Christ,
Angus
